I'm
not a fan of nonskid paint on the deck, so I contracted with
Oscar, who has a shop in Tortugal Marina, to fabricate and install
nonskid panels. He built them there then brought them to the
astillero to install them. Oscar's method was to rough-cut the
panels to size, then lay them on deck and mark the exact size, cut
them to fit, then after careful preparation, glue them to the deck
with resin using wooden strips as clamps which were screwed into the deck at the ends (the Guatemalan version of
vacuum bagging). This was done before gelcoating the topsides.
