On May 15, 2015 Joyeux was hauled out again at Astillero Magdalena for what was to be almost one year's worth of hard work. Much of the prep work I did myself with helpers and I acted as "quality control" on all of the yard work. We stripped off all the teak decking, tore apart the cockpit, and removed everything that was either screwed, bolted, or glued down on the exterior of the boat above the waterline, leaving only the mast. In retrospect, I probably should've pulled that as well. I had nonskid panels made for the deck and cabin top, and we rebuilt the cockpit using nonskid in place of all that teak. We sanded and applied new gelcoat to the hull and topsides. I replaced many of the deck fittings. We sanded and painted all the exterior aluminum, and rebuilt the deck hull joint to fit the new toe rail from Goiot.
Then we put the whole boat back together again.
In the process we found many surprises from Wauquiez and the first owner; I had to rebuild more of the boat than I'd imagined.
